Werner back in Premier LeagueSigns with Tottenham on loanOption to buy includedWHAT HAPPENED?
The Germany international has signed with the north London club from RB Leipzig on a short-term loan deal after their official announcement on Tuesday. The move means Werner returns to the Premier League just a season-and-a-half after leaving Chelsea, who he helped win the Champions League in 2021. The transfer includes an option to buy at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

The announcement confirms the news that first broke last week, in what appears to be a favourable move for all parties. Tottenham's forward line was looking fairly threadbare given Son Heung-min's absence at the 2023 Asian Cup, and Werner's pace and preference for playing in transition should suit manager Ange Postecoglou's energetic style of play. For the German, it is a chance for redemption in England's top flight. Despite being far from vilified at Stamford Bridge – unlike compatriot Kai Havertz before his move to Arsenal – his poor return of 21 goals in 89 matches sums up what was a largely wasteful spell in west London.
DID YOU KNOW?
Manchester United had emerged as the early frontrunners to land Werner, as the German had been mooted for a short-term exit from Leipzig due to lack of game time this campaign. However, the Red Devils reportedly withdrew their interest due to uncertainties over their transfer strategy this winter.
