Villa goalkeeper Martinez was in the spotlight again after pulling out a phenomenal stop in Villa's 2-1 defeat to Forest on Saturday. Naturally, @VillansOpinions was full of praise for Martinez, posting: "Emiliano Martinez is the greatest goalkeeper alive."
@ZachLowy followed a similar line, saying: "Emiliano Martínez is just extraordinary. Save of the season right there."
@joethomlinson opted to suggest it was one of the best saves ever, claiming: "That Emi Martinez save is one of the best in the history of the Premier League. INSANE."
And @NealGardner was quick to agree with him, adding: "Emi Martinez just made one of the saves of the season…"
Finally, @TomGarratt chose to compare the World Cup winner to David Seaman, saying: "What an unbelievable save from Martinez. Seaman esque 👏🏻."
WHAT EARPS SAID
Martinez's save grabbed the attention of fellow goalkeeper and Lioness Mary Earps. The 31-year-old took to Instagram, posting a video of the save and captioning it: "Beyond outrageous."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
As much as Martinez would have enjoyed the limelight had his save earned Villa three points, it was not enough to get Unai Emery's men over the line. A late flurry from Forest prevented the Villans from moving above them in the standings and the result ensured Villa's rocky form in the top flight continued.
